The Bowness (on-Solway) Book Factory – aka writer Jim Eldridge – is having a spectacularly productive year, with eight books out so far from different publishers.
The Sweep’s Boy (Scholastic), set in Victorian London is one of Jim’s books for the popular My Story series. Another – Pyramid of Secrets, set in Ancient Egypt, is due out in August.
4.3.2.1 (Bloomsbury) is Jim’s novelisation of Noel Clarke’s recently released film.
Disgusting Dave and the Flesh-Eating Maggots (Hachette-Hodder) is the sequel to last year’s very successful Disgusting Dave and the Farting Dog (four re-prints in the first six weeks of publication). Jim is currently working on a brand new Disgusting Dave novel for next year – Disgusting Dave and the Bucketful of Vomit.
Black Ops 1: Jungle Kill (Egmont) is the first in a new action series of
novels. The second (Death in the Desert - set in Afghanistan) comes out in August, with two more to follow in 2011.
Sink the Tirpitz (Barrington Stoke) is the second book Jim has written for this award-winning publisher, specialising in books for children and adults with literacy problems or dyslexia.
Jim has also created a brand new series of Wild West novels under the pen name of Eldridge James, published by Catnip. The first two have appeared this year – Badlands 1: Death in Drygulch, and Badlands 2: Range Wars. Badlands 3: Gold Rush will come out next year.
All this in addition to Jim’s work as a scriptwriter – a new radio play, Ashes to Antarctica, was broadcast earlier this year. He is currently busy writing more books for next year, and each year up to 2014, with another twelve commissioned, and more books and scripts at different stages of development.
In between writing he also lectures part-time on scriptwriting at the University of Cumbria, and somehow finds the time to organise the biennial Writ on the Wall literature festival. Not surprisingly, he gave a talk at this year’s event entitled ‘Writing for a Living’.
