PENNING THE PENNINES

North Pennines AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) Partnership is running an inventive new project for people living and working in the Alston Moor area called PENNING THE PENNINES. The project aims to help people gain skills to be able to write about the area, drawing inspiration from the wonderful North Pennine landscape and its astonishing heritage, with the assistance of Vane Women writers.

Following on from a successful evening of readings in September, there will be a writing workshop in the afternoon of Saturday 17 October at The Miners Arms in Nenthead, again led with Vane Women. The afternoon will be very informal, featuring some readings from writers inspired by their own sense of place, followed by support and encouragement in doing your own writing about the North Pennines. The hope is that eventually an anthology may be published.

Booking is essential, say they the organisers, as it will let them know how many soups to order! The workshop is completely free of charge, and tea and coffee are included. To book a place please contact Community Interpretation Officer Abi Wylde 01388 528801 or email abi@northpenninesaonb.org.uk
