… but just about everything else is welcome at Maryport-based poetry mag The Journal, and editor Sam Smith is always open to submissions. Check The Journal’s website for guidelines. We presume the ‘no poems about poems’ rule applies unless you can match the quality of Hughes’s Thought-Fox, Heaney’s Personal Helicon, or – closer to home – Cockermouth poet Jeremy Over’s hilarious Poetry should be made by all (i) and (ii) (from Deceiving Wild Creatures, published last year by Carcanet Press.)
If you know any other poems about writing poems that aren’t seriously irritatiing, self-indulgent and a complete waste of everybody’s time, let us know. We’ll call it the Sam Smith Journal Challenge.
