That lively crowd of writers in lonely Mungrisdale have just announced that they’re running their first ever poetry competition.

The theme is ‘Looking Back’, and the winner can look forward to a cheque for £100. The runner-up gets £50, and there’s a £25 third prize. The judge is distinguished poet, author, Salsa fanatic and Lake District lover Grevel Lindop.

Poems should have a maximum of 40 lines; there is no restriction on the number of poems submitted, but a fee of £4.00 must be paid for each poem, or £10.00 for three poems. Each poem should be submitted with a SEPARATE sheet giving the poet’s name and contact details – don’t put your name on the poem.

The closing date for entries is 31 October 2011.

Poems should be sent to Sue Banister, 6 Eskin Street, Keswick CA12 4DH, with a cheque made payable to Mungrisedale Writers.

Winners will be notified before the end of November 2011, and invited to a prize-giving at Mungrisdale Village Hall on 1 December, followed by lunch at The Mill Inn. A list of winners will be sent to any contributor sending an SAE.
